urbanSTEW presents STEWshops

Details:

urbanSTEW presents STEWshops, a new workshop series covering different technology topics and software platforms relevant to the arts. Join urbanSTEW at MADCAP Theaters downtown Tempe, every Second Saturday September 2010 – February 2011 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm for four new and exciting workshops.

STEWshops explore the vast array of technologies currently available for video, audio, photo, website, and real time project development. The purpose of these workshops is to introduce artists, students, and community members to the various technologies available for use both in art making and arts promotion. The workshops will cover basic information on how to choose, build, and create with different audio, video, photo, real time, and website development software packages such as iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, MAX/MSP.

STEWshops are intended for those artists, students, and local community members who are interested in learning more about technology, but may not know where to start. urbanSTEW offers an affordable way for attendees to get an initial understanding of technologies commonly taught in more depth at several colleges and universities. These classes are an affordable way for students to explore and get excited about a technology before taking a college or university class. Attendees do not need to buy software to participate in workshops covering more costly software programs such as Final Cut Pro and Photoshop. Workshops covering pricier software are a great introduction for those who are interested in buying the software but do know know exactly what it offers. No prior knowledge of any software program is needed for these workshops; however, those who simply need a refresher course to get back into a software program will also find these workshops useful. urbanSTEW is a non-profit organization exploring synergies between art, technology, and culture. The mission of urbanSTEW is to bring together technology and arts in ways that address issues of importance as contributing members of our respective communities. In addition to this, we seek to build broader partnerships for the creation of culturally sensible art and technology, as well as education on topics related to art, technology, and society, visit urbanstew.org for more information.
